What is chiropractic?
According to the American Chiropractic Association, chiropractic is a drug-free, non-surgical science that “is concerned with human health and disease processes. Doctors of Chiropractic are physicians who consider man as an integrated being and give special attention to the physiological and biochemical aspects including structural, spinal, musculoskeletal, neurological, vascular, nutritional, emotional and environmental relationships.
The practice and procedures which may be employed by Doctors of Chiropractic are based on the academic and clinical training received in and through accredited chiropractic colleges and include the use of current diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Such procedures specifically include the adjustment and manipulation of the articulations and adjacent tissues of the human body, particularly of the spinal column.

Do you work with other specialists? Can you handle x-rays, MRIs, and CAT scans?
Our doctors work closely with many other specialists, such as primary care physicians, orthopedists and orthopedic surgeons, neurologists and neurosurgeons, and radiologists. We also make appropriate referrals, as needed. When clinically warranted, we take x-rays, assuring you the highest level of care. Furthermore, we use advanced studies such as MRIs and CAT scans when deemed medically necessary in order to help in your diagnosis and treatment.
What techniques do the doctors use?
Our doctors use a variety of techniques depending on the patient and the condition. The most common techniques include the following:
- Diversified, manual manipulation (a traditional chiropractic adjustment)
- Flexion-distraction (a specialized “low-force” technique to treat disc herniations, scoliosis, patients with osteoporosis, and many other conditions)
- Non-force mobilization and stretching techniques
- Rehabilitative stretching and strengthening programs and adjunctive physiotherapy modalities, such as electrical stimulation, ultrasound, traction, ice, and heat.
What will happen during my initial appointment?
Your initial appointment will involve a detailed health history and a thorough physical examination of the affected area. Depending on your condition or injury, the doctor may take x rays to provide a better overall picture of the cause of your symptoms. After the exam, the doctor will explain his findings and give you his recommendations for treatment.
Is Lakewood Chiropractic Offices included on Tom Martino’s Referral List?
Yes. As you may know, Tom Martino is a Denver-area consumer advocate who hosts a nationally syndicated radio talk show and who appears regularly on Denver’s Fox 31 News. Lakewood Chiropractic Offices is a proud member of
Tom Martino’s Referral List, which helps consumers find reliable professionals. To be included on this list, Lakewood Chiropractic Offices has pledged to follow a
strict code of ethics, which stipulates that we will provide excellent customer service and that our services will meet or exceed the standards of the industry.
What kind of training do chiropractors receive?
Chiropractors complete pre-med undergraduate studies before entering chiropractic college. After a four-year academic degree program and internship, a doctor of chiropractic must pass a four-part comprehensive National Board Examination to become licensed. In addition, a doctor of chiropractic is required to pass a State Board Examination in order to be licensed in the State of Colorado.
How do the auto insurance laws affect coverage of my treatment?
In 2004, tort reform eliminated “no fault” insurance, leaving many patients confused. At Lakewood Chiropractic Offices, however, we take the confusion out of the process and take the pressure off you by waiting for payment until the insurance companies determine responsibility and make a settlement. Few other healthcare providers today offer this level of customer service. All we ask for is a monthly “good faith” payment of $50 during the determination process.
